The Key to Unlocking the Inland Empire for Electrified Drayage
With EVs today, drayage carriers are limited to short hauls; thanks to Terawatt EV charging sites, they get access to a much larger market in the Inland Empire.
The Challenge: Getting Class 8 EVs from the Ports to the Inland Empire
Millions of containers flow through the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach annually, destined for warehouses and distribution centers across the country. When goods leave the ports, a significant portion of that cargo heads east, to the Inland Empire – a major logistics hub in Southern California, located about an hour outside of downtown Los Angeles.
Fleets want to electrify these routes to haul more freight and earn more revenue with their EVs. The missing piece? Reliable, conveniently located charging infrastructure.

The Solution: Terawatt's Port to Inland Empire EV Charging Lane
Terawatt is committed to building the charging network that powers electrified fleets. We understand that strategic location is paramount. That's why we're excited to announce the opening of two convenient charging sites designed to unlock a key electric shipping lane:
- Rancho Dominguez (April 2025): Located 12 miles north of the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, our Rancho Dominguez site is perfectly situated to serve trucks making their journey from the ports. This site will feature 20 pull-through and bobtail DC fast charging stalls, with 7MW capacity, capable of charging up to 125 trucks per day. PepsiCo has already announced it will leverage this site to support last-mile delivery charging.
- Rialto (June 2025): Located in the heart of the Inland Empire, our Rialto site provides a crucial "top-up" charging solution for trucks needing to make a quick stop. This allows heavy duty electric trucks originating at the ports to reach their Inland Empire destinations and return with confidence, and vice versa.
These two sites, working in concert, effectively create a "charging lane" for electric drayage. For example, a truck can begin its day with a morning charge at the Rancho Dominguez site, pick up a load at the port, and then proceed to the Inland Empire knowing that the Rialto site is available for top-up charging before the return trip.
This eliminates range anxiety – a major barrier to EV adoption – and provides fleets with the operational confidence they need to transition to electric.
The Impact: Smarter Logistics, Better Economics
This electrified lane offers significant advantages for fleets:
- Better EV Asset Utilization: Fleets can squeeze more miles out of their EV assets by covering more miles and more trips each day
- Flexible Charging Access: Fleets can use one or both charging sites, only paying for the amount of charging they need
- Achieving Compliance: Fleets can meet local environmental regulations by demonstrably reducing their carbon footprint.
- Improved Driver Experience: Ultra fast, well located charging sites with driver amenities create a great driver experience.
Additionally, by placing charging infrastructure along this critical shipping route, Terawatt is directly addressing the air quality challenges faced by communities in Southern California. With 125 trucks per day, the Rancho Dominguez site alone is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12,600 metric tons annually. The addition of the Rialto site will almost double this impact.
The Future is Electric, and It's Powered by Strategic Infrastructure
The Rancho Dominguez and Rialto charging hubs showcase Terawatt’s commitment to building a comprehensive network for EV fleets that will power the future of freight transport. Terawatt is proud to partner with fleets, shippers, utilities, and key local players across the Inland Empire to make the transition to electric trucking a reality — one charging hub at a time.
